Unmanned Systems Canada congratulates the University of Sherbrooke on having won the Association for Unmanned Vehicles Systems International Student UAV competition held in Patuxent River Maryland, USA this week. Pitted against 24 teams who had qualified for the final flying phase from the United States, Canada, Germany, Israel and India the Sherbrooke VAMUdeS team took first place, with the University of North Carolina placing 2nd, and Cornell University third. This is the second time that VAMUDeS has won this event. Notably, Sherbrooke has also been a perennial winner of the prestigious Unmanned Systems Canada Student UAV Competition which had a record 18 Canadian university teams register this year.
“Our team has been working very hard to be as ready as possible for the AUVSI competition. Countless hours of design and testing have been spent perfecting our systems. This year, one of the achievement I can be proud of is the completely autonomous flight portion, from takeoff to landing. We hope to show a stellar performance again for 2017! I would also like to take the opportunity to congratulate ÉTS Dronolab, which won the best rotorcraft award this year.”
