USC-STC sets the scenario for 12th Canada’s National Annual Student Competition

Each year, post-secondary teams from across Canada tackle real-life scenarios as participants in USC-STC’s National UAS Student Competition.
This year’s challenge enables students to showcase their team’s technical and flying skills by finding solutions for one of the fastest growing applications in the logistics, retail and emergency services / humanitarian sectors….using drones to deliver packages. This year’s scenario…
There is a medical emergency facing remote communities in Manitoba! University and college teams from across Canada have been called upon to design an Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) to deliver critical medications and supplies from their depot to communities that are inaccessible by road.
Students across Canada will have to pull together their team and tech skills to determine: What’s the most appropriate aircraft and payload design to pick up and deliver small packages from inside a building to a remote location? How will your communications systems need to be configured? Many will compete, all will learn…but only one team will triumph! Learn more at the links below.
There’s three steps to prepare to compete in the 12th USC-STC Student UAS Competition being hosted in Southport, Manitoba from May 1 to May 3, 2020.
Those of you who’ve competed before know the routine, but here’s the scoop for new teams…
TO COMPETE IN USC-STC’S 12TH ANNUAL NATIONAL UAS STUDENT COMPETITION
- Apply: Review this year’s CONOPS for the scenario then email the Student Competition Committee at [email protected] now to express your interest to compete. You’ll get a reply with more info and next steps.
- Register: Team registration with payment will be due November 8, 2019.
- Submit Phase I Design Paper: Team Design Papers are due January 12, 2020. They are graded on the quality and completeness of their design paper and ability to address the scenario.
- Compete: Phase II is the Competition in Southport, MB on May 1-3, 2020. Teams address three components during the weekend: a ‘Company Pitch’, the flying demonstration to address the scenario and their post-flight written report about the tasks.
Prizes are awarded for each component and for notable team accomplishments.
For university and college students, this is a tremendous opportunity to gain valuable experience, make connections and a great stepping stone for those pursuing careers in the Unmanned and Remotely Piloted Aerials Systems field.
