During the 2014 Unmanned Systems Canada Annual Conference and in the weeks surrounding it, Transport Canada unveiled new approaches for authorizing UAV operations. These included:
- Two types of operations that were exempted from the requirement to have an SFOC
- Clarification of the criteria for SFOC applications
- A safety campaign on the details of the regulations to inform the public and recreational users of model aircraft
