Updated as of June 18, 2019: This year’s Call for Speakers is now closed, and we’re happy to report that we received over 50 abstracts to consider for UC19Ottawa. The USC-STC Conference Program team will review all proposals then contact applicants over the next few months.

Original post: April 25, 2019:
Unmanned Systems Canada – Systèmes Télécommandés Canada – is pleased to announce the call for Industry Speakers and a new Conference Student Competition.

Unmanned Canada 2019 is Canada’s largest annual conference and trade show for the rapidly evolving unmanned, remotely-piloted and autonomous vehicles industry.

USC-STC invites professional operators, industry suppliers, academics and all government, regulatory and business experts using or advancing Canada’s unmanned and remotely piloted technologies to apply now to present at UC19Ottawa.

This year’s event will be held Wednesday, October 30 through Friday, November 1, 2019 on the unceded traditional territories of Algonquin, Anishinabek Peoples in Ottawa, Ontario.

Don’t miss the opportunity to showcase your best practices, research, project updates and industry insights at Canada’s largest national event of the year, “Unmanned Canada 2019 – Innovating Canada by Air, Land and Sea.”

1. Call for Industry Submissions: Apply by June 15, 2019

Presentation abstracts are due by 5:00pm PST on June 15, 2019. All applicants will be notified of the Program Committee decisions by June 30, 2019. Speakers chosen to present at #UC19Ottawa are eligible for a discounted registration rate and will receive priority access for discounted rooms available at this year’s host hotel, the Westin Ottawa.

Conference Themes For Industry Presentations

The UC19Ottawa Conference Program team is seeking presentations on a diverse number of topics. We will build on the most popular workshops from UC18Vancouver to address on-going or arising concerns for our industry, showcase new technologies, provide regulatory and policy updates, share best practices and increase awareness of opportunities to expand and develop our sector.

The following themes will be scheduled around keynote addresses, sponsor presentations, and plenary sessions also being coordinated across Canada’s aerial, marine and ground system sectors. The UC19Ottawa Program team is developing an exciting 3-day conference and trade show around these key streams and themes, but we’re always open to innovative ideas…so get your application in early!

Questions? Comments? New ideas for workshops? Please email: CallForSpeakers@unmannedsystems.ca or submit your suggestions through the online Speaker Application.

Future Growth: Promoting Diversity and Inclusion

To continue promoting diversity and inclusion in our sector, USC-STC will build on last year’s successful Women in Drones/STEM panel and Indigenous Innovators panel. Please email one of our Directors leading these national initiatives (kristin.kozuback@unmannedsystems.ca) to discuss speaking and sponsorship opportunities for these panel presentations. Make sure you’re signed up for USC-STC News to get updates about these Working Groups and our other Committees that will meet during UC19Ottawa.

2. Call for Conference Student Competition Submissions – Apply by June 15, 2019

New this year, the UC19Ottawa will feature a special session dedicated to supporting post-secondary students! Students can apply now to present an overview of their research in progress or a recently completed capstone or final project.

Candidates who are selected will receive a special discounted registration fee and cash prizes to be awarded for the most outstanding research/technical paper ($800), oral presentation ($350), and poster ($350).

The Conference Student Competition is open to all Canadian undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in full-time studies in a recognized university or college at the time of submission. Attendance at the conference in Ottawa will be required to receive their award.

A more complete description of the UC19Ottawa Student Competition will be available on our website soon. New sponsorship opportunities will be announced in July to enable socially-responsible companies and organizations to showcase their leadership role by helping to offset students’ travel expenses to attend UC19Ottawa.

Students who wish to enter one of the categories must specifically indicate their intention to compete by selecting the appropriate option for either the research/technical paper, oral presentation, or poster, at the time of submission.

While students may apply to provide more than one presentation (e.g. a talk and a poster), the student cannot enter more than one category for this year’s competition.
